Myocarditis is the inflammation of the heart muscle. It can be caused by many factors, most commonly a virus infection (as in Lucy's case).
Most people who get myocarditis are unaware, and make what seems to be a full recovery. Some people's hearts are severely compromised, potentially requiring a heart transplant. Some people, unfortunately, lose their life to this disease.
Myocarditis is found in up to 20% of all sudden deaths in children in the UK.
